The Woolverton Inn has been hosting gorgeous outdoor weddings in the New Hope, PA area for over 30 years. Our location is so ideal for a nice season of outdoor weddings, from May to October. When speaking to clients, we are often asked, “when is the best month to get married outdoors?” While dates and months mean something different to everyone, and we believe you should choose the date that you really want, we do have our favorite times of year, and September is right up there in the top tier!
September is a spectacular time for a fall outdoor wedding, and here are some reasons why we feel this way.
The Climate is Ideal
As summertime shifts into fall, we have the “best of both worlds” here in New Jersey. We enjoy hints of crisp cool air in the mornings and evenings, but during the daytime it is still warm enough to be outside without extra layers. Who wants to cover up your gorgeous bridal gowns with a coat? Your guests will thank you too – not too hot and not too cold!
The weather in September is so conducive to maximizing your time outdoors for a weekend destination wedding. At the Woolverton Inn, we’ll help you organize a fun, casual “welcome dinner” outside, perhaps with a food truck, on our great lawn with café lighting and pretty tables. What a great start to your weekend. Before you escape to “get ready” on your big day, start the morning with a casual outdoor breakfast outside on a lovely patio with your friends and family. And after your wedding reception ends, host a wind-down gathering outside around the fire-pit to look back and linger on all the special moments of your amazing day.

As the sun and earth move in tandem each year, we find ourselves in awe by the dramatic, angular lighting of fall days, from morning to evening. The “golden hour, ” just in time for an afternoon outdoor cocktail hour, is not to be missed. Your photographer will surely know just the right set up to capture your beauty and happiness in that very special “ natural light” of autumn.
Summer Flowers are at their BEST
Before you race on to pumpkins and scarecrows, remember that the first few weeks of September are still considered summer, and the flowers know best. The colors in our garden are absolutely spectacular in September, from the lushest of greens, to native roses and all the colorful annuals that surround our ceremony locations. You can’t ask for a more perfect backdrop for your pictures and for your guests to enjoy during their stay. Ps: Local flowers such as zinnias and sunflowers make lovely tabletop displays and centerpieces.
Farm to Table Selections Abound
Local farmers markets are booming in September, with plenty of fresh produce available to your chefs and catering teams. Create your wedding menu with additions of local specialties such as corn, tomatoes, vegetables, cheese, and even local wines. Add a few extras, such as local apple cider, for a welcome drink as guests arrive. Meeting the “locals” through a connection to the food you serve can only enhance your experience and make wonderful memories for years to come.
